FAQs

What is Event Cancellation Insurance?
Event Cancellation Insurance provides insurance protection for your financial loss as a direct result of a covered event cancellation, event curtailment, event postponement or event relocation. For example, if you had to cancel your outdoor event because of extreme weather, Event Cancellation Insurance could cover the expenses you incurred and/or the revenue you did not earn as a result of the cancellation of the event, such as a golf tournament.

Who should purchase Event Cancellation Insurance and why?
As an example, a non-profit organization may purchase Event Cancellation Insurance on a golf tournament or school carnival to cover the expenses and/or the loss of revenue if the tournament or school carnival had to be cancelled as a result of inclement weather. In another example, a concert promoter or country fair promoter may purchase Event Cancellation Insurance to cover the expenses and/or the loss of revenue if the concert or country fair had to be cancelled as a result of brush fires or inaccessibility to the site as a result of another covered cause of loss.

When should I purchase Event Cancellation Insurance?
Event Cancellation Insurance should be purchased during the initial planning of the event. Weather coverage is provided only if the Event Cancellation Insurance is purchased at least 14 days before the date of the first event.

What is covered under an Event Cancellation policy?
Event Cancellation can cover the expenses incurred and/or the loss of revenue as a direct result of a covered event cancellation, event curtailment, event postponement or event relocation. As an example, should you have to cancel your event because of a covered cause of loss, such as weather, the policy will help pay the expenses and lost revenue as a result of the cancellation, subject to policy language. Keep in mind that in order to have any weather coverage at all, the Event Cancellation Insurance must be purchased at least 14 days before the date of the first event. Otherwise, cancellation due to weather is not covered.
